Specialised Films
Advantages of Cast Pallet Wrap
1. Multi-layers for extra strength. The film has
great tear and puncture resistance.
2. Lower yield point. The film is easy to pull.
3. Higher pre-stretch rate. One metre of film can easily be stretched
upto 1,5m.
4. Lowest Squashing rate. The strength, yield and
strength features allow palletized goods to be well staballised and reduces
risk of squashing.
5. Consistant and uniform cling.
Cast film has specialised ingredients in raw materials which generates
film-to-film adherance.
6. Non-telescoping. The roll can be used right down
to the last metre with no telescoping.
7. Noise free. The process of re-winding and wrapping
is completely quiet.
8. Superior clarity. Barcodes and product
descriptions can be easily read and scanned through the film.
9. Excellent guage and thickness control. The
thickness allows stretch over loads with irregular shape.
10. Enviroment friendly. Cast film is made from
recyclable.

TCE line — The new Italian-built cast film extrusion line at Transpaco Specialised Films in Bronkhorstspruit

With anticipated growth of 14% in the liner-low density field, the decision to enter the LLDPE stretch wrap film market was a natural progression for the Transpaco group. The group's packaging division had in fact until recently been sourcing stretch wrap film from another supplier.
Now it has entered the market in a big way with an investment of R13-million in what is a new group division, Transpaco Specialised Films. The new business joins a hub of four other Transpaco companies in Bronkhorstspruit, 60kms east of Pretoria in Mpumalanaga.
The 3-layer cast extrusion line for the manufacture of LLDPE stretch wrap film, from TCE of Italy, features all the bells and whistles, with virtually complete automation. Features of the line include automatic thickness control, high-speed winder, volumetric/gravimetric dosing system, and an automatic shaft-handling system. The line was commissioned in October 2004, and joint MDs Ken Harris and Steve Harmse and their team have since been bedding down all the related systems.
The automation capability has had the result that 21 people are required to run the plant, only seven per shift including the rewinders. The TCE system can produce films from 9 to 60 microns up to 1500mm wide and can achieve an output of 300 tons a month. With the 130/65/65 extruder configuration used, a variety of co-ex films can be produced. For the stretch film, an inner layer of ultra LLDPE gives the film tackiness.
The scrap is now processed internally and reused within the plant.
The control system, based on a Siemens S7-300 unit, achieves control of fractional variations in all parameters, and it also has remote capability – so the line can be controlled from Momo in Italy, where the manufacturer, TCE, is based. With over 30 years experience in the construction of cast film lines, TCE is now one of the international leaders in the field. A number of its lines are in operation in South Africa. The machine features reduced vibration, particularly with regard to the placement of electric and electronic devices, as well as reduced risk of over-heating and improved access for maintenance.
LLDPE stretch films are used primarily for stretch wrap applications, for the wrapping and pallet stabilization of products ranging from cement to pharmaceuticals. — For technical inquiries, contact Ken Harris on 013 933 3554; for sales inquiries, Steve Harmse on 011 493 5220.
